WHERE CAREGIVERS CONNECT & EMPOWERED TO CARE
The Caregiver's Circle was birthed in 2014 out of a call from God, along with my own unique experiences in caregiving. A few years prior, caregiving was thrusted upon my brother and I, when my dad suffered a stroke. At the same time, my mom was hospitalized with health challenges of her own (see My Story). Once both of my parents were stable, I returned to my home out of state, and initiated caregiving from a distance.
Prior to this, I never thought about or saw much on the subject, yet I had already experienced many facets of caregiving. I have provided care to my parents locally & from a distance. I have been a caregiver to my son as an infant who was born with a cleft palate which required special care and eventually surgery. I have also been the recipient of care, having dealt with a life-threatening illness. All of these experiences have given me a very unique perspective on caregiving. They have also sent my emotions spiraling in many directions. However, it was the hand of God that kept me. It was His word and promises that sustained me and kept my footing sure.
If The Caregiver's Circle helps just one person, then all of our experiences in caregiving will not have been in vain.
In His Service
Kelly Abernathy-Porch
From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
Ephesian 4:16
Kelly Abernathy is a native of Cleveland, Ohio where she grew up with her parents and younger brother. Being raised in the church she grew up with a profound sense of Christian values and ethics. She comes from a family of ministers and other servants of the Lord as a niece of the late Civil Rights leader, Rev. Dr. Ralph Abernathy and the daughter of the Rev. Lucille Abernathy.
Through many of life’s struggles Kelly has come to know the magnitude of God’s power on a personal level, acknowledging that God is the one who brought her through each and every storm. She now embraces every struggle she has faced because it has made her the woman of God she is today. “Without those storms, I wouldn’t be where I am now. I wouldn’t have the wisdom that comes from knowing what God can do from an actual and practical experience.”
Kelly is a retired Human Resources professional with over 20 years of experience. She worked for Verizon Communications for 13 years and Educational Testing Service for over 7 years. Kelly has been a licensed minister since October 2009 under the leadership of Pastor Doreen Giles of Saved Souls Ministries, where she served as an associate minister and church administrator. She is also the founder and facilitator of both WAVE (Women with a Vision Exchange), as well as The Caregivers Circle, a ministry devoted to the empowerment & encouragement of caregivers.
Kelly is also called to the office of Teacher. She has been anointed to not only preach the gospel, but to teach the gospel. Her love for teaching the word is evident in her ability to deliver the word so that it is easily understood and applied to daily living. She recently launched TEE Time Bible Study: A Time of Teaching, Empowering & Encouraging. Kelly’s mantra is: “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.” Colossians 3:23-24
Kelly is the co-founder of The Believer’s Academy. She has completed biblical coursework at Liberty University and a certificate from Logos Institute of Biblical Studies. Kelly is the mother of 2 adult sons and currently resides in Charlotte, North Carolina.
“He said unto them, “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and I they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
Mark 16:15-18
